What is what to do when soap gets in your eye?

Here's what to do if you get soap in your eye:

The most important thing is to immediately flush your eye with plenty of clean, lukewarm water. Use a gentle stream to avoid further irritation.

  • If you wear contact lenses, remove them as soon as possible, but only after you've started flushing your eye. Soap can get trapped under the lens, prolonging the irritation.

  • Continue rinsing for at least 15-20 minutes. Don't stop just because the initial stinging subsides.

  • Try to blink frequently during the flushing process. This helps to wash away the soap.

  • You can use an eyewash station if one is readily available. Follow the instructions on the station.

  • If you experience persistent pain, vision changes, redness, or irritation after rinsing, consult a doctor or eye care professional. They can check for any corneal abrasions or other damage.

  • Avoid rubbing your eye, as this can worsen irritation and potentially scratch the cornea.
